Wondering at
Her great round belly,
Iron core,
And rich, sonorous voice,
I asked,
“Are you a bell?”
“Are you a hammer
That strikes a bell?”
“Are you air
That moves
Inside a bell?”
“Are you particles
In the air,
That move
Everywhere, and all
Around a bell?”
Silent,
She listened.
Then, she said,
“I am
The bell,
The hammer,
The air,
The particles,
The movement,
And the sound.
But all these,
And even the thought of these,
Cannot contain
The whole
Of me.”
