Flash

He stepped outside with her

To say their first goodbyes.

She skipped down a few steps,

Then unexpectedly, turned for a last wave.

He had become a backlit shadow,

Tall and tense,

Mute and expectant,

Cold and disappointed.

Just as a flash

Both lights and blinds,

She knew him, and

Squeezed her eyes shut.

Brushing away a few sudden tears,

She grieved momentarily a future,

Which had, for a while,

Seemed so promising.
